Step Forward

Go travel,

Have fun,

The world is yours for the taking,

Be adventurous,

Believe in yourself,

The hardship will help you find yourself,

Don’t be afraid,

Fear not,

Remember the ones love you will always be there,

It is time,

Step forward.

Travel Map

This is a map where I track the places I have visited. It’s not complete but it’s close enough 🙂

I feel like a lot of us are waiting for the opportunity to archive something in life. To perform that one shot wonder. We work hard to prepare ourselves for the coming of the day, to make our dream come true. Then I came to realize how passive that is.

The successful people do not just dream and wait for someone knocking on their door. They ran after it and so must I. Perhaps something will have to wait because the distance and the restriction from other matter. Make a plan and follow your heart.

I have finalized the 4 graduate program I want to apply to. I plan on going to Australia for work holiday after I am done here. I am hoping the girl I care the most would understand how I feel about her and when I see her next time. I will let her know I feel.

A Guy Who Travels

I recently read a blog entry called “Date A Girl Who Travels” and it is about why a guy should date a girl who travels and what unique personalities a girl who travels has. Honestly, I would love to date a girl who loves traveling and adventures as much as I do.

I thought to myself, what special traits would a guy who enjoys exploring like me would have. I certainly always carry a pocket knife with me which could come in handy. I would always have that extra layer jacket in my backpack for whoever is cold. I became much more eager to help people because those helping hands I have received throughout the travel. I rather deal with problems than whining about them because it is much more practical and efficient. I found myself more flexible from facing all the unexpected happening in my journey. I am more spontaneous and yet able to plan things well because all the experience I had. I am romantic because I will take a girl to the most beautiful spot I know and show her how wonderful life could be, to enjoy the simplest thing in life. It is interesting that how much traveling has changed me from a city boy to an independent adult who is eager to see and learn new things.

Girls, if you ever found a guy who loves traveling and he loves you. Join his adventure, he would show you a different point of view and the secret sanctuary he found. At times, you might split apart for whatever reason, but no matter the distance, he would always find his way back to you because deep down, you are the safe harbor that he has been looking for all along in his life.

Learn from Life

I believe life itself is a learning experience. This statement has been made several times in my blog. To reflect upon them is the essential step to in order to gain from it. I find the need to reflect upon my latest experiences, the canoeing trip and the road trip.

Canoeing trip, of course, a great reminder of what nature has to offer and what fun we could possibly have in the wild. Practically, I gained a great hand-on experience on canoeing, in another word, how to steer at front and back, and power paddling, etc. At the same time, how to pack for a multiple river trip, equipments (dry sack, clothing, etc). Although the camping part was not unfamiliar to me because the trips I have done during my years in Switzerland. The variety of food was still very impressive to me, pizza, chillies, the great used of instant rice. The tarp for campsite and the knot was used (trucker’s hitch knot). The trick that can be used to mix up groups with in a group. The little enjoyable things in life.

Road trip was a brand new experience to me, nothing like backpacking and hopping on trains. I will list them for myself to better my thought process.

  • Destination – I think it’s good to have a furthest location that you really want to go in mind and know the distance between where you are and that destination. It will help you to budget and research for where in between you could possibly go. I feel like road trip is such a free spirit thing, it was proven difficult to really to be organized. Nevertheless, traveling in a group, you want to make sure including everyone’s “must go.” At the end of the day, sacrifice might need to be made. Just embrace what you can and make the most out of it.
  • Time – As much as you can afford to allocate, my biggest regard for the trip is that I didn’t have enough time for a lot of places that I fall in love with. Of course, as you travel, plan changes, be flexible. Just don’t forget to enjoy the moment you get to spend at the place you are. However, if you do have a somewhat schedule trip, try to add two days extra because you can never predict what is going to happen, snowstorm or severe weather.
  • Companion – Choose carefully, unless you are doing it alone (not recommended because there is a lot of driving to be done). You will be spending however long with these people and there will be no escape. What are the things to keep in mind? Well, for example, the priorities. I had a very different priority comparing to some that was in the trip. It frustrated me at times because I found my time could be better spend and more rewarding to everyone. Personality clashes was definitely not a part I enjoy on the trip. However, it gave me the opportunity to work on my temper, the spirit to keep the group together by doing my own part. Although I think it would be fun to travel with people you don’t know well. I think it would be even better to spend the trip of your life time with your friends.
  • Budget – One of the hardest thing but the most important part to remember is your overhead spending, mainly, gas and lounging. Food, you can bring can goods to cut a lot of cost. However, at the same time, remind yourself you are on vacation, a trip to open eyes, to experience new things… One thing people can’t ever take away from you is your experience. We can earn money, hard or easy. But prepare to bleed a little and remember what is more important to you. Money or a story to tell?

This is what comes to mind so far… Sure there are more and I welcome comments and questions. Please let me know!

Take a Moment, Help Others, Relax

Spring break 2011, I once again join the habitat trip, same as last two year.

A trip that allows me to help other and yet take a moment for myself. I don’t know why I don’t do it as much as I use to anymore. I used to be very active with Habitat, Circle K, and volunteer my time with Education Department. I am glad I kept up with this one and still contribute to help the others.

This year we went to Flagler Beach, FL. We went there last year as well, it has became very familiar to me and I was glad. I went to watch sunrise every morning, to have that little time for myself. Just chill out at the beach and listen to the sea. At the same time, working hard to help people in need.

I thought about Japan… It is tragic there and yet I can’t do much about it.

Nevertheless, the trip was great fun. I saw dolphin during sunrise, I learn how to put on siding and framing. I made new friends. Best of all I was able to have some time for just myself, surf, and enjoy life. It was difficult to have some “me” time because people always want to do things together. I was annoyed by that sometimes.

I took a lot less picture because of the excessive SLD on the trip. Whatever, as long as I record my memory. It’s all good 🙂 and it was good one!
